A Science Fair is held every year with Junior High participants from both 7th and 8th grades. Mrs. Cindy Hamilton, our Junior High Science teacher, works with all students to teach them how to create an experiment using the process of the Scientific Method. As always, last year’s Science Fair was a great success. The students put a great amount of time and effort into their projects.
Last year we added two new areas of concentration to the science fair process. Mrs. Lynn Loftus, the Junior High English Teacher, taught the students how to write a research paper. This included researching information in books, the Internet, and additional sources of information important to their topic. Students were also taught how to properly cite a science research paper. The second area added included Mrs. Maureen Murphy, Technology Teacher, who taught online research skills, graphing using MS Excel, and how to format a research paper. All research information had to be completed at school and printed from our school computers.
The 7th graders did a great job on their projects and all received a ribbon of participation. The 8th graders were judged by the school teachers and were awarded a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place ribbon based on the results. There were 3 Best of Show awards given to the projects receiving the top scores by the judges. The titles of those projects were: C for Yourself, LEVITRAIN, and Celling Skills. All the Junior High students did a fantastic job and should be incredibly proud of themselves!!
